Default PVP Warrior Startup

I've played a W/E through all three campaigns.
I've finished NF a while ago, and I feel like I've done all that I want to do in PVE (in other words, I feel I'm an above average PVE warrior, but I'm bored out of my skull playing PVE).
I want to start playing PVP now, but I'm not quite sure where to start.
Do I buy the unlock packs for all skills (I think that's what they're called; I'm probably wrong)?
I want to play a W/E in PVP; is the "Shock Warrior" build still valid, or are there some other builds out there?
To all the PVP warriors out there, let me know where I should start; any and all advice is welcome...and thanks in advance....

Yes, cap/unlock Evicerate and make the Shock Axe to get you used to the key aspects of PvP; Disruption and Spiking.

Right now my War runs either Shock Axe or Shadow Prison Axe in AB. Both builds run good in co-op and can also be valuable when fighting solo.

Shock Axe is still a valid (and very useful) build.

Start in RA or HvH.

Simple W/E build to get you started:

Axe: 16
Tactics: 11
Strength: 9

Eviscerate [Elite]
Executioner's Strike
Frenzy
Sprint
Distracting Blow
Shock
Healing Signet
Rez Signet

Also, have a look at Dragon Slash Warriors, "You're All Alone!" (YAA) Warriors and Devastating Hammer warriors. They're common builds you can search for on Guildwiki.

Good Luck

YAA - Signet of Malice Sword Warrior are pretty good, as well as Shadow Prison Axe Warriors. Shock Warriors are still viable and are pretty fun. Or you could always go Hammer for Devastating Blow. Or maybe even the Steady Stance DB Warrior.

YAA-Signet of Malice
Sever Artery
Gash
Final Thrust
"You're All Alone!"
Signet of Malice
Healing Signet
Sprint/Dash
Rez Signet

Find some room for an IAS there.

if you have nightfall.... try this as well [card]headbutt[/card] + [card]plague touch[/card]

just make sure not to add any more energy skills....

... and just to add.... the best place to start pvp in my opinion is alliance battles.... the enviroment is pretty forgiving..

for good blocking (expecially in pvp) use "watch yourself" with soldiers defense. watch yourself is always good to have as a +20 armor party buff (at 11 tactics) and used with soldiers defense, it gives you 17 seconds of blocking and allows you to use skills.

I take it you don't understand that tanking generally has no use in Guild Wars? Especially in PvP. People will ignore you and go for you team members. Watch Yourself may be useful, however its usefulness has dropped since it got hit with the Paragon nerf.

I'd start with Shock Axe, or perhaps YAA Axe. If you want to start in RA (not recommended)/AB, definitely YAA.

Thanks, all, for the advice so far.....
I'll try both builds suggested ("Shock Axe", and "Yaa Build").
I'm not going to look to join people for a while (I want to get used to these builds, and don't want to be known as "The Weakest Link"..lol). What's the lowest arena I can start in (preferably, I guess, against NPCs)?

Again, thanks for the advice, and keep those build ideas coming!

I believe if you go to Isle of the Nameless, there's an NPC that lets you taste some PvP arenas versus NPCs.

http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Build:W/any_Steady_Warrior is also pretty good. You could swap several skills out ( Soldier's Strike, Watch yourself, Fear me )

I enjoy this build so much, mainly because when Eles try to cast Meteor on me I tend to muddle them when I don't drop.

You mean, Gale, not Meteor?

I don't see people with Meteor around...

when starting pvp, AB would indeed be nice. Going with a solo-ish build will enable you to keep yourself alive. I personally enjoy the YAA warrior a lot.

You're all alone - sever artery - gash - final thrust - healing signet - enraging charge - signet of malice - IAS (frenzy or tiger stance)

will do just fine as character in AB. You don't need a res signet in AB, so you can easely pick an IAS. The build itself will keep you alive when used properly, is pretty versatile, and overall good training for a warrior.

Actually I never see Gale when I PvP, mostly Meteor and Meteor Storm.

Then again, I don't do HA.

Im developing a tank for AB, thos silly little mobbed-up sheep will waste so much time trying to kill me, leaving others free to rampage across the platforms. Im doing this for the fun of it, itll probably fail lol

The problem with tanking is that it rests on the assumption that you can hold aggro and that people will decide to waste time killing you instead of just going to smash the face of a soft target since with all the tanking skills you aren't a real threat to anyone. Now in AB I wouldn't be shocked if this happened...but generally in better formats anything that relies the assumption that your opponents are cement heads might not be a good idea.

I'm thanking all for the advice given so far....
I've been using both the "Shock Axe" build, and the "YAA" build (trying to see which one I like best).
I've done the Zaishen challenge (against NPCs), and am now at the Zaishen Elite.
Has anyone experimented with swapping a skill or two out of each of the builds I'm using? If so, what have you used?
I noticed, as far as rewards, mods are offered for weapons---do you get a chance to get weapons themselves with PVE chars? Or, is that only with PVP-only chars? I have a number of swors/axes/hammers--which one is more efficient in PVP, in terms of finishing off a foe?
And, I'm guessing that the real test of how I'm doing would be against people, not NPCs?
Thanks for you input, all....
